LHC extends stay order on professional tax on lawyers

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has extended stay order on professional tax on lawyers till 11th January 2016. LHC also issued notice to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and seeks their reply regarding professional tax on laywers.

Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heared the case of professional tax in which president Lahore High Court Bar Association Pir Masood Chishti informed the court that lawyers always paying taxes on their income beside this FBR imposed tax on lawyers, he said  tax is illegal and according to law state cannot impose double tax on any citizen so the court should declare professional tax as null and void. The lawyer of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) submitted the reply and demand for further time and court accepted the appeal of FBR counsel adjourned the hearing till January 11, 2016.
