LHC issues notice to chairman FBR in PG internees tax case

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notice to Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq Bajwa in case of income tax on scholarships of post graduate internees who are working in different hospitals.

As per details, the post graduate internees filed a case against levy of income tax by Federal Board of Revenue on PG internees. During hearing of the case consul of appellant Safder Shaheen Pirzada argued before the Court that the scholarships received by the post graduate trainees not considered as salary and taxable income.

He said FBR wrongly translate scholarships and issued baseless income tax deduction notification to PG internees. Due to deduction on scholarships post graduate trainees are facing financial problems.

After hearing of case the Court rejected the appeal of counsel of Young Doctors Association (YDA) regarding stay order and adjourned the hearing of the case till November 25, Court also issued notices to Chairman FBR and called senior officers with written reply on next hearing.
