LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notice to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on different percentages of tax on marriage halls. LHC also summoned the attorney general of Pakistan in the same case.

On 11.1.2019, Justice Shahid Waheed heard the case filed by marriage halls owners in which the counsel for appellants Raja Hassam Kyani told the court that government of Pakistan has amended section 236-D, illegally after Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued notices to the owners of marriage halls in different cities of Pakistan with different tax rates.

He further argued that a difference in tax rates on marriage halls is a discrimination and against the law.

Counsel of appellant prayed before the court that court may declare null and void the amendment in income tax ordinance 2001 and stop the Federal Board of Revenue from tax collection till final order by Lahore High Court.

After hearing arguments Lahore High Court (LHC) banned the implementation on tax notices issued to marriage halls and called the Federal Board of Revenue in the same case.
