LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued stay order collection of surcharge on electricity bills.
The court ordered the appellants to deposit the current month’s electricity bills without surcharge and stopped the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) from collecting the surcharge.
The counsel for appellants, Azhar Sadique, argued before court against tariff rationalization surcharge, debt servicing surcharge and Nelam Jehlam surcharge, adding that NEPRA has not authority to impose tax over consumers.
They added that these surcharges against the constitution and law of Pakistan, so court should order to withdraw such surcharges because the consumers already paying tax in electricity bills.
After hearing arguments the court issued stay order in favour of appellants and directed them to pay bills without surcharges.
