LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved decision in a case against the payment of duty tax on manufacturing of liquor only in the Punjab.
According to the details, Justice Shahid Kareem heard the applications of Muree brewery and others in which the counsel for appellants Shahid Hamid argued that Punjab Government has imposed duty tax on manufacturing of liquor in 2015.
Earlier, tax was paid in the province where it was used and now government has said that it will received tax on liquor where it is manufactured, the counsel argued, adding that provincial government has no authority to levy tax as it comes in the jurisdiction of the federal government.
On the other side, Assistant Advocate General Samia Khalid represented the Punjab Government and argued that the government did not impose any new tax but modify the tax collection procedure. Now, anyone who trade alcohol from Punjab will be liable for the payment of taxes to the Punjab Government, she added.
Furthermore, payment of taxes on liquor to other provinces brought losses to the provincial kitty, she argued.
