LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a notice to the federal and provincial governments seeking clarification over imposition of new taxes on the registration of new vehicles.

As per the details, a petition was filed by the appellant through his counsel Azher Sadiq against the imposition of taxes on vehicles at the time of registration with the argument that this imposition is against the law, as the government cannot charge tax twice if tax has already been received on a vehicle.

The counsel for the appellant also argued that the government was already receiving many taxes – right from the purchase of a vehicle to annual token tax.

Azher Sadiqe also requested the court to issue an order to declare the imposition of new taxes on new vehicles null and void.

After hearing the arguments, the court issued a notice to the federal and provincial governments to clear their stance on it until June 18.
