LHC seeks reply from FBR in tax case of post graduate trainees

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notice to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman in a case of tax imposition on the scholarship of Post Graduate (PG) trainee doctors. The LHC seeks answer on November 27 from the FBR chairman.

Yesterday Justice Shahid Jameel Khan has heard the case of Post Graduate Trainees Doctors versus the Federal board of Revenue. PG trainee’s doctors have challenged income tax on the scholarship received by them during the training period.

The counsel of Young Doctors Association (YDA) Shaheen Pirzada argued before the court that scholarship received by the Post Graduate Trainees not be considered as salary besides this the FBR has wrongly interpreted scholarship and issued baseless income tax deduction notification.

He added more that due to the income tax deduction from the scholarship of PG trainees who performing duties in different hospitals the trainee’s doctors problems are increased and educational purpose also affected.

After hearing the argument of appellatnt court rejected the appeal of stay order frequently and issued notice to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), called senior officer with written answer on 27 November at next hearing.
