LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee from cashing the cheques it had received as tax from cotton importers.
Justice Shahid Kareem heard the case filed by Kohinoor Mills. The counsel for the petitioner, Rizwan Akhter Advocate, argued that the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee was not authorized to collect taxes on import of cotton. There was no point regarding the imports in the SRO issued by the Textile Ministry.
He submitted that the tax collection by the committee was illegal. The court ordered the committee to return cheques collected by it from cotton importers.
