LHC suspends SRO limiting cotton import from India

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended a SRO that limits the import of cotton to 500,000 bales from India and sought answer from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) within two weeks.

According to the details, Justice Mamoon ur Rasheed heard the appeal of Hira Cotton Taxtile in which the counsel of appellant argued that the cotton importers could not import bails more than 500,000 under this SRO.

The counsel further added that the issued SRO was not according to the law, as the board could not bar the businessmen from business activities. He appealed the court to declare the said SRO null and void.

After hearing the arguments, the court suspended the SRO and sought answer from the federal government and FBR within two weeks.
