MONROVIA: Liberian National Port Authority (NPA) drafted a 25-year work plan to improve the efficiency and economic productivity of their port system.
NPA Managing Director Matilda Parker said based on worldwide competition among ports, there is a drive to improve port efficiency, lower cargo handling costs and integrate port services with other components of the distribution network, such as inland transport.
Parker made the disclosure at the Ministry of Information regular press conference held Thursday at the ministry in Monrovia.
Parker said to meet the demand of shipping traffic of the 21st Century and ensure a harmonized, integrated development addressing all challenges, the NPA decided to translate its long-term vision into a national port master plan for the next 25 years.
“The plan also discusses the NPA’s main markets and principal traffics of importance; its expectations for future traffic growth; and any predicted
expansion of the ports or changes in the way they operate,” Parker said.
Meanwhile, she has admitted that the country’s Ebola crisis was her major challenge during the 2014 fiscal year and as such every Liberian should endeavor to collectively eradicate the virus from the country.
