BERN: Despite the high value of the Swiss franc, Lidl Switzerland exported 2,950 tons of local products last year, almost 240 tons more (+9%) than in the previous year.

As would be expected, cheese accounted for most of the exported food with 1,576 tonnes. Also exported were “rösti” (a typical Swiss dish consisting mainly of potatoes), sauces, dried meat and sweets.

Swiss products from 14 manufacturers reached 21 European countries. Germany confirmed its place as the largest buyer with 2,148 tonnes.

Over the past year, Lidl Switzerland has expanded its meat offer with beef products from organic farms, particularly respectful of animal-welfare.

The high Swiss standards for animal protection also apply for imported chickens.
