Liquor smuggling: Customs Court rejects bail pleas of seven suspects

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has rejected the bail application of seven suspects who were booked in a case of attempt to smuggle foreign origin liquor worth millions of rupees.

Seven accused namely Murad Baksh, Noor Muhammad, Muhammad, Sabzal, Musafeer, Rahim ullah and Lukman moved the court seeking bail.

During the hearing, the counsel for the applicants submitted that applicants were innocent and falsely implicated in this case. He pleaded that the court may release them on bail. However, the counsel for the department argued that it has sufficient evidences against the accused persons; therefore, they should be convicted.

After hearing the arguments, special judge rejected the bail application of the applicants/ accused.

According to the prosecution, a customs team intercepted a launch in Jiwani area and during checking recovered more than 300 bottles of foreign origin liquor, which was smuggled from Dubai. After formalities, officials of the customs authorities seized foreign origin liquor and arrested seven accused. According to the sources, that market value of seized foreign origin liquor is in millions.
