ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has reiterated his commitment to end loadshedding from the country before the end of his government’s mandated term in 2018.
While chairing a meeting to review progress on the ongoing and future energy projects here at the Prime Minister’s House, Nawaz stressed the need for bringing marked change in the energy situation in the country before the culmination of his government’s mandated term.
He said that the government was effectively diversifying the energy mix of the country to overcome the energy shortfall and expressed optimism that by end of next year gap between supply and demand would be bridged to a great extent.
“It is encouraging that all the ongoing energy projects are being executed cost-effectively,” the PM observed.
He laid special emphasis on progress on energy projects under the CPEC and directed for reviewing the pace of work on these projects on regular basis. The PM further directed that utmost transparency should be ensured while executing all the energy projects.
Nawaz expressed satisfaction over the pace of work on the energy projects, and said the present government was effectively diversifying the energy mix of the country to overcome the energy shortfall.
“Our aim is to reduce the energy shortfall in the country that has been affecting the domestic as well as industrial consumers for several years,” he said, adding, “We are committed to providing to the consumers not only sufficient electricity but also affordable electricity so that they could be enabled to contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.”
The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance Senator Ishaq Dar, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Secretary Water and Power Muhammad Younas Dagha and other senior government officials.
