WASHINGTON: The Fredericksburg region’s unemployment rate continued to fall year-over-year in March with the jobless rate dropping to 4.3 percent, according to data released by the Virginia Employment Commission. That regional unemployment rate fell from 5.1 percent in March 2015. It remained steady from February 2016’s 4.3 percent, though every locality in the Fredericksburg region posted a 0.1 percent decline between months.
In Caroline County, the jobless rate fell from 5.6 percent in March 2015 to 4.6 percent this March. The city of Fredericksburg reported 4.9 percent unemployment in March compared to 5.7 percent at the same time last year.
King George County had 4.6 percent unemployment in March, compared to 5.4 in the same month the previous year. In Spotsylvania County, 4.2 percent of the workforce was unemployed in March, compared to 5 percent year-over-year.
Stafford County reported a 4 percent jobless rate in the most recent report, down from 4.8 percent in March 2015. In Virginia, the 4 percent seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was the lowest since June 2008, when joblessness was reported at 3.9 percent.
