RIYADH:  Three lorry drivers have been caught with more than 6kg of heroin and amphetamines at a border crossing. Dubai Police were tipped off about the Asian trio’s intent to smuggle drugs across the Al Ghuwaifat border crossing to Saudi Arabia on May 4. Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, the assistant commander-in-chief for the criminal investigation department, said the suspects had been coordinating with a drug dealer outside the UAE to smuggle the drugs.

Police found 13 plastic bags of amphetamines weighing 3.6kg hidden inside the lorries used by two of the suspects, who were in the final stages of crossing the border. An X-ray scanner revealed 3kg of heroin hidden in secret compartments inside the third suspect’s cabin. The trio were referred to Dubai prosecutors on charges of drug possession with the intent to smuggle and sell. Two of them were also charged with drug consumption.
