NEW DELHI: The Andhra Pradesh Lorry Owners’ Association (APLOA), Vijayawada Taxi Owners’ Welfare Association (VTOWA) and Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry Federation (ACCIF) protested against Telangana government for imposing ‘Motor Vehicle Tax’ on vehicles from Andhra Pradesh.
The State Transport and R&B Department had issued G.O 43 on June 1, 2014 providing for ‘continued validation of the quarterly tax paid in the combined State and avoidance of additional burden on goods and passenger vehicles post-bifurcation.’ The extra burden that the controversial tax would impose on vehicles going to Telangana would be anywhere between 104 to 204 per cent across different categories of vehicles, said APLOA general secretary Y.V. Eswara Rao.
Addressing media persons at ACCIF office here on Friday, Mr. Eswara Rao said G.O 43 stated that the ‘quarterly tax paid up to March 31, 2015 in any of the Successor States shall be deemed to have been paid for both the successor States and be decided by new governments thereafter’, but the TS government took the unilateral decision to impose the tax.
Mr. Rao said permits were given in the combined State with five years validity. Neither the Telangana government nor the one in A.P could cancel these permits and the tax structure could also not be altered without mutual consent.
When the tax system remained the same, it was absurd on the part of the Telangana to impose the tax on vehicles which were registered in A.P., he said.
