Loss of business in war on terror

According to newspaper reports, Pakistan has againbeen coaxed into reaffirmingits support for the war on terror to mark the ‘seal of enduring friendship’with the United States. During the course of strategic talks between the Pakistaniteam headed by Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and the United States delegation led byUS Secretary of State John Kerry resolved that war on terror is vital for peace, stability and prosperity of the region and is also in the interest of the two countries. According to a joint statement, both Pakistan and the United States are committed to democracy, human rights and respect for international law. Both sides agreed to meet again for strategic dialogue in 2016.During the meeting Kerry and Aziz reviewed bilateral relations and shared goal of a stable and peaceful region.

As a matter of fact, friendship, partnership, appreciation and collaboration are such words which have lost meanings and respect in the US dictionary and Pakistan has been cowed into submission on one pretext or the other for the last one and half decade. The country has lost nearly 60,000 lives and material losses to the tune of billions of dollars since former military dictator Pervez Musharraf had decided to participate in the war on terror. Pakistan has lost business, investment, industry and security all together and has been placed under the list of the most unstable countries in the world. Pakistanis as a nation have lost their respect and Pakistan is being treated as pariah state. The Pakistanis are seen as prime suspects on every airport in the world. Kerry is said to be the friend of Pakistan in his personal capacity – may be it is true to some extent — but his more often visits to New Delhi and body language tell a different story. Despite the fact that Pakistan itself is a victim of terrorism, the United States officials hold it responsible for every terrorist incident on the Indian soil.

The United States is still a major economic partner of Pakistan and there is a need to enhance business cooperation between the two countries. Business is key to maintain cordial relations between nations and that is something which both Pakistani and US officials should accept as a reality. The US administration presses Pakistan on the behest of India and uses threatening language in Indian tone which has to be avoided. The friend of enemy is the enemy. The United States should have information and sure it has that India is fanning insurgency in Balochistan and funds anti-Pakistan elements in Kabul. Pakistan and India are developing countries and they should exert all their energies towardregional peace and stability.
