Low gas pressure, high demand increase coal, firewood prices

ISLAMABAD: The prices of firewood and coal have increased due to their high demand as low gas pressure is being observed in several areas of the city.

Residents point out that prices of firewood and coal have increased apparently due to high demand but witout any check in this regard.

Mushtaq Ahmed, a resident of F-8 sector, said the sale of firewood and coal has increased for last few days after rain. He said some hotels have also started using firewood and coal for cooking as an alternative measure. He said coal was being sold at Rs 50 per kilogram.

A hotel owner at Civic Center (Melody) claimed that his expenses had registered a significant increase due to use of firewood, adding per 40kg firewood was available at Rs 1000 to Rs 1100.

Shoppers at dry wood stall claimed that the prices of firewood and coal have increased by the firewood traders. They claimed that the prices of firewood are different in various localities, with availability at Rs 1100 to Rs1200 per 40 kilogram.

Qaiser-ul-Zaman, a student in Soan Garden complained of abrupt rise in the prices of firewood and coal. “The jump in prices of firewood was due to huge transportation cost, said owner of a firewood stall, in I-9 sector. Gul Khan, another wood stall holder at I-8 sector claimed that the prices of firewood and coal had been increased by firewood traders on their own.
