LAHORE: With the aim to keep the city clean on Eidul Azha, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has convened a meeting to review all possible arrangements in this regard.
The company will distribute 0.85 million customised waste bags among the citizens and hire 300 additional pickups for effective waste collection at union council level from across the city.
A meeting was held at 90 Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam to review the Cleanliness Plan for Eid devised by LWMC in collaboration with Albayrak and Ozpak. Adviser to Punjab Chief Minister and LMWC Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan, presided over the meeting.
LWMC Managing Director Khalid Majeed – in the presence of Member National Assembly Mehar Ishtiaq, WASA Vice Chairman and Member Provincial Assembly Chaudhary Shahbaz, environmental lawyer Ahmad Rafay Alam and Commissioner Lahore Abdullah Sumbal – gave a detailed presentation over the arrangements expected to be made by LWMC and Turkish contractor companies on the occasion of upcoming Eidul Azha.
He said that LWMC has made a three-phase strategy for ensuring cleanliness before, on and after the eid. He added that in the first phase every citizen will be made aware of standard instructions and operating procedures of the cleanup operation for successfully achieving desired outcomes.
Khalid added that the major measures with regard to the before Eid phase include deployment of workers along with machinery and setting up of awareness camps in district government’s animal markets; distribution of bags among public through union council offices, mosques, markets and other channels; and dissemination of Eid Plan at larger scale.
