Mac users can install WhatsMac free on their devices

LONDON: WhatsApp can be installed only on smartphones running on Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Symbian and Nokia S40, so OS X is not supported yet. But Mac users can still install a similar application called WhatsMac, which is free.

WhatsMac is like the original WhatsApp application, allowing you to view multimedia files, to chat for free and get notifications via the OS X Notification Center, but to upload media files, you will need to drag and drop them, otherwise the feature doesn’t work, because WKWebView doesn’t provide an easy mechanism for using <input type=”file”> tags. But, if you use the application only to chat with your friends, then this is the best way to spend your free time.

Before installing WhatsMac, you will need to create a WhatsApp account and to use your phone number to get verified. Then, get WhatsMac from Github and run the application with the Gatekeeper enabled. Right click the application and select Open, then you will run WhatsMac without any problems. This application is a native Mac application wrapper for WhatsApp Web the feature that works in WhatsApp for Android and Windows Phone, but not in iOS, and to use it on your Mac, you will need to open your browser and scan the QR code with your WhatsApp mobile app (take a photo with the phone’s camera). Since the iOS app doesn’t support QR scanning, then you’ll need to open the Web option on a smartphone that runs on Android, Windows Phone or BlackBerry.

To install WhatsMac on your Mac device, you must run OSX 10.10 Yosemite. For now, you can’t record media messages with the device’s webcam + microphone. You can’t make voice calls either, but maybe the developers of WhatsApp will allow third party client connections in the future.
