HONG KONG: A Korean man who won 13 million HKD while gambling in Macao saw his luck run out when he’d reached airport customs and had seven million HKD in cash confiscated. The case marks the largest violation of its kind at Macau’s airport this year, Sina News reports.
According to customs officer Wan Xuelin, a man with large black backpack entered the customs zone at around 11:00 a.m. When he was asked to open his bag, the officers found 70 stacks of cash, each containing 100,000 HKD.
The man claimed that he won 13 million HKD at a Macau casino and that he’d planned on depositing the seven million in his bank when he got home. He said he was unfamiliar with customs laws and wasn’t aware that he needed to declare the money before inspection.
Maybe these people could’ve offered him a tip ahead of time.
