NEW DELHI: Apple has unveiled a new thinner MacBook at ‘Spring Forward’ event. The new MacBook is 13.1mm thin and weighs 2 pounds, claims Apple. “This is the lightest Mac we have ever made,” Apple said.
The new MacBook has a Retina display with edge-to-edge cover glass. The screen has a 2304 x 1440 resolution. The panel consumes 30 per cent less energy than previous displays, claims Apple. “The new MacBook has 35 percent more battery capacity than would be possible with traditional battery cells and delivers all-day battery life with up to 9 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 10 hours of iTunes movie playback,” adds Apple.
The MacBook has a new ‘butterfly keyboard system’ as against the earlier scissor keys. “This is four times more stable than that scissor mechanism, but 40 per cent thinner,” Apple said. There is a new backlighting system with an individual LED for each key. “New stainless steel dome switches located beneath each key deliver a crisp and responsive feel when typing,” says Apple.
The new MacBook, which will retail at $1,299 onwards, will be available in three colours; silver, space gray, and gold. “This is the first fan less MacBook. It boasts of “terraced, contoured battery cells”.
The new MacBook will begin shipping Friday, April 10. MacBook comes with a 1.1 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.4 GHz, 8GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300 starting at $1,299 (US); and with a 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Core M processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.6GHz, 8GB of memory, 512GB of flash storage and Intel HD Graphics 5300 starting at $1,599 (US).
