DUBLIN: A Maine-based tidal power company is establishing a presence in Ireland.
Ocean Renewable Power Company announced that it’s setting up ORPC Ireland LLC in County Donegal. It’ll be located at the Business Centre at Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
The company is already running demonstration projects in Down East Maine and in Alaska. In 2012, the company’s TidGen power system near Eastport became the first commercial, tidal power project to connect to a utility grid in the U.S.
Located northwestern Ireland, County Donegal is home to the largest fishing port in Ireland and boasts more mainland coastline than any other county in the country. Seamus Neely from the Donegal County Council says local officials are delighted to have the company in Ireland.
