Main accused in illegally imported dry milk seizure joins investigation

LAHORE: Main accused in Rs63 million illegally imported skimmed milk seizure joined investigations after getting his pre- arrest bail, sources told Customs Today. As per details main accused Malik Zahid joined investigations after his pre –arrest bail.

Official sources said that a huge nexus will be broken as the investigations are likely to reveal major names in the case.

Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization last week seized mega Rs63 million non-customs paid dry milk from a godown in a rice mill near Muridkay while samples of the milk were sent to forensic laboratory to know the harmful impact of the milk on human health if there is any.

Customs ASO observed unusual movements for about one month and after being fully satisfied, the ASO team raided the godown and recovered 9300 bags of non-customs paid dry milk.

Each bag was containing 25 kilograms of the dry milk while the milk was being supplied to the ice cream companies and dairies.

It was informed that the milk was being illegally imported from Iran, the US, Poland, Turkey, NATO and other countries on thrown away prices and supplied to the local market and even to the other cities like Okara, Kasur, Gujranwala.

The sources added that customs authorities raided the godown on information and directions of Collector of Customs Preventive Zulfiqar Younas and initially the 50 trucks of illegal dry milk were shifted to the State Warehouse while more quantity was being transported to the warehouse.
