DUBAI: The biggest sugar carrying vessel in the world with 106 thousand tons of the product loaded by Bunge Brazil at Santos port.
The bulk sugar, which left Brazil in November, was transported to Dubai by the ship UBC Ottawa, which sails under the Dutch flag. The vessel measures 260 meters in length and has a load capacity of 118,625 tons. The load was sold to Al Khaleej Sugar, the first sugar refinery of the Gulf’s region.
“We are proud to host the biggest [sugar] vessel in the world at the Al Khaleej Sugar berth in Dubai. In the last few years we have seen a number of improvements and additions to our refinery as we installed new equipment that helped increase production rates and places us as one of the leading sugar refineries in the world”, said Jamal Al Ghurair, manager director of Al Khaleej Sugar, according to the release.
According to Bunge Brasil’s website, the company is today one of the biggest sugar and bioenergy producers in the country and one of the biggest sugar trading companies in the world. The website says that the company handles more than five million tons of the products, integrating producing areas in Brazil, Thailand and Central America’s countries to destinations such as China, Canada and Middle East.
