KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Customs (JKDM) aims to collect RM46 billion in taxes this year, compared with RM35.195 billion collected last year, said its director-general Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad here the other day.
Khazali is optimistic that the target could be achieved as revenue collection would be focused on the sales and services tax for January to March and on Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection from April.
“Overall, the RM46 billion tax revenue will be collected through import tax, excise duty and GST.”
He said the Sabah Customs’ target this year was RM1.26 billion, he said after a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Sabah Customs office costing RM61 million here today.
Khazali said the people should view the payment of tax as an obligation to the nation and not regard it as a burden.
