KOTA BAHARU: The Kelantan Royal Malaysian Customs Department have seized 31 luxury vehicles of various makes worth RM1.1 million since January this year, said its director Abdullah Zawawi Abd Latiff.
He said among the luxury vehicles seized were Toyota Wish, Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Grandis that were smuggled from a neighbouring country.
“We take this matter seriously as syndicates often bring in luxury cars from neighbouring countries illegally without approval of the Customs,” he told reporters when met at his office here the other day.
Abdullah said the public was often taken in by the syndicate because the price offered was cheaper than the market price.
“Buyers are fooled by the price, supposedly being much cheaper than the actual market price, when in fact, the cars are brought in illegally.
“We hope the public will be more careful when buying luxury cars offered at cheaper prices because the cars are also sold with fake registration numbers,” he said.
