KINABALU: Malaysian Customs nabbed two passengers at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport Terminal 2, for smuggling over RM1 million drugs into Sabah here the other day.
The men aged 29 and 31 were arrested separately outside the compound of departure hall at 9pm.
Customs also confiscated two luggage containing 7,556 grammes of syabu. The drugs were hidden in four Chinese tea boxes.
Sabah Narcotics chief Superintendent Abdul Rahim Dolmat said the duo boarded AirAsia flight from Senai International Airport, Johor.
“Both suspects knew each other and there were here to meet someone upon arrival but the person did not turn up,” he told reporters.
Abdul Rahim added the duo were hired as drug mules with payment that could reach between RM5,000 and RM10,000.
“They have entered Sabah couple of times and they were expected to return Johor.
“The drugs were for the local market and we are looking for the other individuals in connection with the duo.”
The suspects were investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty if convicted.
