KUALA LUMPUR: A representative of Malaysia’s Petronas Oil and Gas Company has announced readiness to resume daily import of 50 to 60 thousand barrels of oil from Iran upon the removal of sanctions.
Aykhal Abdul Rahman stressed Petronas’s readiness to resume joint activities with the National Iranian Oil Compnay (NIOC) and said, “the company’s office was active in Tehran even during the sanction years and the activities will increase after the lifting of sanctions.”
“According to a proposed plan, NIOC will offer an official list of Iranian oil projects,” said Abdul Rahamn expressing hopes to return to Iran’s oil industry.
Confirming the beginning of partnership with one of subsidiaries of NIOC, he noted “recently, we had a training program in the field of exchanging experiences and developmental cooperation which can form a basis for expansion of relations.”
Pointing to the plans to resume crude import from Iran, he said, “before the sanctions, Iran exported 50 to 60 thousand barrels of oil per day to Malaysia.
He referred to the new round of talks between Petronas and NIOC estimating that oil imports from Iran will become possible after the removal of sanction.
Petronas, short for Petroliam Nasional Berhad, is a Malaysian oil and gas company that was founded on 17 August 1974.
