KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian authorities seized RM8.4 million (US$2.3 million) worth of heroin hidden in wooden cupboards from Pakistan here the other day.
To avoid inspection, the drug dealers used containers to transport the contraband to Malaysia from Pakistan. Police have been following the operations of this drug syndicate since last year.
Police arrived at a two-storey shophouse in Semenyih and arrested 11 people, including four Pakistanis, four Indonesians and three Malaysians.
A second raid at another premises in Semenyih was carried out more than an hour later. Two other Pakistani men were arrested.
Police also seized 83 grams of khat leaves, a stimulant forbidden in Malaysia.
Authorities are still hunting for several members of the drug ring who are still at large.
