KUALA LUMPUR: Following a tip-off from Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau, Malaysian police nabbed two men in possession of RM1.3 million worth of ketamine here the other day.
Federal police Narcotics Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said following the tip-off, the department and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group conducted an operation at a hotel in Tanjung Tokong, Penang.
“Two men aged 40 were nabbed at the hotel; one at the hotel’s lobby and the other at the parking lot,” he said. It is learnt that police discovered the drugs, in a courier box at the hotel. Mokhtar said investigations revealed the drugs were couriered from China. Police also seized a car, a motorcycle, watch and 40, 000 (Yuan) in cash.
Both men were remanded until March 13. Meanwhile, Mokhtar said a total of RM51.6 million worth of drugs were seized between January and March 6 this year. He said a total of 39,064 people were arrested for various drug-related offences including 1,641 foreigners.
