KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s tax agency has set a performance target to ensure 80 per cent of employers in the country electronically file for income taxes by the end of this year.

27 per cent of the tax filings by employers were electronic in 2013, said Tan Sri Mohd Shukor Mahfar, CEO of Inland Revenue Board (IRB).

IRB will aggressively campaign for e-filing by organising seminars for taxpayers and the country’s traditional and social media platforms.

The agency has just opened e-filing for 2014 income tax on 1 March.

The total number of income tax return forms received electronically was 14 per cent higher last year than in 2013.
