Malaysian Customs thwarts smuggling attempt of contraband 28kg meth worth RM5.4m

SEPANG: The Royal Malaysian Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle in drugs worth about RM5.4 million in a parcel at a Mas Cargo warehouse in Kuala Lumpur International Airport here the other day.

KLIA Customs director Datuk Chik Omar Chik Lim said the parcel which arrived from Lagos, Nigeria was addressed to premises in Serdang, Selangor, believed to be in the name of a foreign national.

He said initial investigations revealed that the address did not exist and the mobile number could not be contacted.

The parcel was not claimed and the importer could not be reached, he said in a statement here the other day.

Customs officers held back and inspected the parcel in the form of a wooden box which contained a bag of clothes.

“A thorough inspection of the luggage found white crystalline powder which tested positive for methamphetamine with a gross weight of 28.2kg,” he said.

Chik Omar said the Customs cooperated with the police in order to track down the owner but no arrest has been made yet.
