PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Malaysian Customs integrated information system Ubiquitous Customs (uCustoms) is on track to be implemented in January 2016.
Dubbed as a system to combat corruption, uCustoms is a hassle-free platform without the involvement from Customs officers.
Customs deputy director-general (Customs & GST) Datuk Subromaniam Tholasyv said the uCustoms would replace the 18-year-old Customs Information System.
“It would go live on Jan 1 next year. This system will also allow the latest data related to shipping information and declaration of import/export trade to be shared with authorised partners,” he said at the opening of the Exit Conference on Malaysia Time Release Study 2015 here time.
uCustoms an upgraded version of the national single window project to streamline the registration and trade procedures as well as abandoning the old age practice of repeated process with different government agencies.
This single back-end electronic gateway will cater to 17,000 traders consisting mostly of transportation, logistics and shipping companies to submit payment of duties and declaration of goods.
The system mainframe, located at the National Clearance Centre in Putrajaya, also communicates with the rest of Asean countries to facilitate data sharing including determining document authenticity.
The system service providers, Edaran Trade Network and Dagang Net Technologies, have been conducting a pilot run since Sept 1 to assess its efficiency before the full system rollout in January.
It is learned that the contract value of the total uCustoms system is around RM420 million with a 2-year contract review.
