Malaysian police bust three drug trafficking rings

JOHOR BARU: Johor police crippled three drug trafficking syndicates following separate raids in Johor Baru on Sunday and Monday.

Johor deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad said five people were arrested and 17kg of drugs of various types were seized during the raids. “In one of the raids, we also seized a semi-automatic pistol, a magazine and 27 live bullets.

The drugs seized were valued at RM262,000,” said Zakaria. He said one of the suspects is a Vietnamese woman, believed to be the girlfriend of another suspect. “All the suspects have been remanded until May 22 to facilitate the investigation,” said Zakaria. He said the cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act and Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Heavier Penalty) 1971.
