KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested eight men, five of them foreigners, and seized RM26.2 million worth of drugs in the Klang Valley and Kelantan on July 13 and 14.
The eight men, aged between 26 and 41, were arrested and RM20 million worth of an assortment of drugs were seized in two raids, said Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff.
He said the Sting operations team arrested a local man in Kampung Baru on July 13.
After questioning him, the police raided a shophouse in Pandan Indah and arrested six men, one local and five foreigners, who were processing drugs.
“At the shophouse, the police seized drugs suspected to be Eramine pills weighing 206.5 kg in boxes as well as cocaine weighing 1.8 kg in a store,” he told a news conference.
Mohd Mokhtar said the police also seized equipment and chemicals believed to be for processing drugs.
They also seized two cars, a Honda Civic 2.0 and a Nissan Cefiro, and a Honda CBR600 motorcycle, all valued at RM176,000, as well as various currency notes valued at RM62,940.
Police then arrested a local man in a raid on a condominium in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
“The men are being held under remand for seven days from today and are being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Mohd Mokhtar said the police success resulted from the cooperation of the public and the sharing of information with the Investigation Bureau, Ministry of Justice, Taiwan.
In KELANTAN, police seized 272,000 methamphetamine pills valued at RM6.2 million in a house in Kampung Tasek Berangan, Repek, in Pasir Mas on Monday.
Kelantan Police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said that acting on a tip-off police raided the house at 10.30pm and found the drugs in three packages the size of gunny sacks as well as a red plastic bag.
No arrests were made but the police were on the hunt for a 34-year-old suspect from the village to help in their investigation.
Meanwhile, Mohd Mokhtar said that nearly 100,000 individuals had been arrested by the police since January for various drug offences, including trafficking.
Of the 98,686 held, 3,827 were foreigners, he said.
He also said the police seized more than RM160 million worth of drugs, sealed property valued at RM39.4 million and seized property worth RM4.5 million.
