VALLETTA: Customs officials were surprised to find three stowaways during checks made on an SUV that arrived board a catamaran from Sicily.
Suspecting that the vehicle might be carrying goods that could be subject to the payment of excise duty, the officers were surprised to find three men hiding beneath some cardboard and inside luggage being transported in the SUV.
Immigration police were informed of the case.
The driver in question was also held over the non-payment of excise duty on bottled water.
