JAKARTA: A man has admitted to his role in a conspiracy to illegally purchase guns in New Hampshire and Maine and smuggle them out of the country for use by the Indonesian Presidential Guard. Feki Sumual, of Dover, New Hampshire, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Concord to federal charges of conspiracy to smuggle firearms from the United States and several counts of making false statements.

Prosecutors say Sumual’s estranged wife approached police and reported her husband for trafficking firearms. The 9 mm handguns were bought at local stores and given to the protective security detail of Indonesia’s president and vice president. Sumual testified that his nephew and three members of the Presidential Guard hatched the scheme in 2014. Sumual faces a maximum sentence of five years behind bars when he’s sentenced in November.
