Mangaluru customs seizes foreign currency at airport

MANGALURU: Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) at Kenjar seized foreign currency of various countries amounting to Rs 7.54-lakh from Abdul Kader Perumbala, an air passenger bound for Dubai. The foreign currency seized include 18,250 Saudi Arabian Riyals, 1,075 UAE Dirhams, 860 Kuwait Dinars, 3,650 Qatar Riyals, 735 Omani Riyal, 55 Bahrain Dinars and 500 US Dollars in various denominations.

V Selvadurai, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangaluru named said the accused hailed from Perumbala in Kasargod district of Kerala and was scheduled to fly out to Dubai on board Air India Express flight IX 813. Abdul Kader attempted to smuggle the above mentioned foreign currency out of India without valid money exchange documents and by concealing the same in his checked-in baggage, Selvadurai said, adding further investigation is under progress.
