Mango exports from Punjab to begin next week

LAHORE: The export of mangoes will be started from Punjab with the delivery of Chaunsa variety of Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Muzaffargarh regions from the first week of August.

Mango exports from Punjab are expected to go high up to 10000 MT during the current season due to the good yield of crop. Major importer of Punjabi Chaunsa mangoes are Dubai and UK where Pakistanis have large population.

Sources in the Trade Development Authority Pakistan (TDAP) said that after beginning from August, export of Punjabi Chaunsa mangoes will be ended in October. The TDAP is fully committed to provide best quality to the customers at international market and it will ensure the shipments of non-defective produce to the markets, sources added.

According to the exporters in Punjab, Pakistan had exported record mango of 91,700 metric ton in 2014 and 82000 MT in 2013.

It is pertinent to mention here that mangoes exports increased in 2014 as compare to 2013 despite EU’s strict watch on the quality of mangoes.

Similarly, Pakistan has earned Rs 4.9 billion from the export of mangoes to different regions of the world in 2014.

The biggest contribution observed Pakistani mangoes export to Europe Union (EU) increased by 8500 metric tons in 2014.

Pakistan is the sixth largest producer of mangoes with a total production capacity of around 1.8 million ton a year; country exports only 8% of its production.

Pakistan exports mango to almost 56 countries including EU, the main countries are; Canada, Malaysia, the UAE, the US, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Iran, Jordan, UK, Lebanon, South Korea, Australia and Mauritius.
