DUBLIN: The number of households seeking to defer payment of local property tax has risen sharply this year.
Figures published by Revenue showed a 22 per cent rise in the number of residential property owners seeking to postpone payment of their LPT. More than 6,500 extra households have applied, bringing the total number of applicants this year to 36,125 out of 1.85 million properties liable for the tax — almost 2 per cent of all homes in the Republic.
Records supplied to Róisín Shortall, the Social Democrats TD, showed that Dublin city council had the highest number of deferral claimants with.
