Marble association Italy to provide Euro 400,000 for development of local stone sector

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Stone Development Company (PASDEC) Confindustria Marmomacchine- Marble Association of Italy would establish Technical–Scientific and International Trade Centre in Pakistan for the development and promotion of stone sector.

In this regard both the organization have signed a memorandum of intent, which aiming at to develop and promote marble and granite sector of Pakistan.

The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer PASDEC Zahid Maqsood Sheikh and Honorary President of Confindustria Marmomacchine Italy Flavio Marabell. Under the agreement both the organizations would contribute Euros 400,000 each for the establishment of center, said a press release issued by the Ministry of Industries here.

Under the agreement, the Italian Association will provide technical expertise and support for the transfer of knowledge, technical and scientific education for operators and works for communication and marketing.

The Centre will be equipped with the latest machinery and equipment for the human resource and skill development in the field of marble and granite of the country at Marble City Risalpur.

The agreement had already been approved by the federal cabinet, which was expected to be completed within two years and it will also serve as an export promotion center for the stones being extracted in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Zahid Maqsood CEO PASDEC said that more of such agreements  will be signed with other stone producing countries going forward to further upgrade mining and processing methodology in the country.

He further informed that a technical group from Italy would soon be visiting Pakistan to evaluate and set time lines for execution of the project.
