MUMBAI: At the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) has made an interesting revelation. The company’s Indian arm Maruti Suzuki is likely to get 15 new models by 2020 as it gradually moves ahead to producing bigger vehicles. While speaking to media at the event, Toshihiro Suzuki said, “We are planning to introduce 20 new models in the next five years for the whole group… out of those 20 models, except for the Kei Jidosha (mini cars), rest will be launched in India.”
The list also reportedly includes the upgrades and replacements to 13 models that the company had in its portfolio. By 2025, India is expected to emerge as the third largest automotive market in the world and the company intends on making preparations to tap such a massive opportunity. He further added, “The Indian market is growing in size but with the growth, the expectations of Indian customers is changing. Along with this change, we would gradually graduate into manufacturing of bigger vehicles, gradually.”
