TOKYO: Mazda has joined the likes of BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Infiniti and Volkswagen in releasing a virtual sports car concept developed for Sony PlayStation’s Gran Turismo 6 driving simulator game.

Dubbed the Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo, the super flat racecar concept is a collaboration between Mazda and the game’s developer, Polyphony Digital.

Designed to blend agility and elegance with power and grace, the LM55 has clear styling links to Mazda’s hallmark Kodo design language – seen in models such as the Mazda 2, 3, 6 and CX-5 – particularly at the front end. The Japanese manufacturer also claims influence from its famed rotary-powered 787B racer that took overall victory at the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Though no specific details have been announced, the LM55 is said to feature a carbonfibre monocoque chassis and “advanced drivetrain technology that offers the epitome of power, efficiency and durability”.
