Collector Zeba Hai suspends customs officials for corruption

ISLAMABAD: Model Customs Collectorate Collector Zeba Hai Azhar has suspended the entire on-duty shift, including Customs Head Constable Hasan Raza, of the Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad on the charges of asking for bribery from a British citizen, who captured the video and later posted it on the social media.

The suspended officials include Superintendent Naeem Anwar, Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Fiaz and two inspectors. It was Head Constable Hasan Raza who had asked for the bribe, as shown in the video.

The British government showed grave concern over the incident. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) took notice and ordered a probe into the matter. Collector Zeba Hai, Additional Collector Abdul Waheed Marwat and Deputy Collector Yawar Nawaz visited airport.

Departmental inquiry has been ordered against the accused officials, while the second step will be to forward the case to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for further investigation.
