ISLAMABAD: The Collector Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad held a meeting with officers of the Air Freight Unit (AFU), Islamabad Dry Port, Baggage Section of Benazir Bhutto International Airport Islamabad, International Mail Office, Preventive and Anti-Smuggling Organization to discuss a ‘strategy plan’ to pursue the unusual assigned revenue target for May and June for Financial Year 2016-17.

According to Dr. Arslan, Collector MCC Islamabad, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has tasked the collectorate with the collection of Rs681million Customs Duty. The said target is the highest one against the revenue targets of the past months of current Financial Year 2016-17, he added. During today’s meeting held at the MCC Islamabad with customs officers heading different sections of the MCC Islamabad, he discussed different possible mechanisms so as to maximize the efforts to achieve the revenue target for May-June FY16-17.

The Collector MCCI asked the relevant officers to enhance the revenue collection through real and bona fide trade. He also asked the responsible customs officers to hold auctions of impounded vehicles and goods with the utilization of legal cover of Article 161 Section (4).
Dr. Arslan stressed the need for speeding up the process of pending adjudication cases of legal seizures of goods so that they can auction the goods. He asked the AC Preventive during the meeting to recompose the ASO to gear up efforts against tax evaders and smugglers. He advised his recovery staff to pursue various defaulters whose whereabouts have already been forwarded to the NADRA for further details to confiscate properties against their pending dues under the head of duties and taxes.
