MCC Peshawar generates more CD & ST from July 20 to August 20, 2017-18 than previous year’s

PESHAWAR: The MCC Peshawar has collected more Customs Duty and Sales Tax from July 20 till August 20 in FY2017-2018 than the amount generated during previous FY2016-2017 from 20th of July till 20th of August.

The MCC Peshawar received Rs609.1683million Customs Duty and Rs386.0533million Sales Tax in the current Financial Year from July 20, 2017-2018 till August 20, 2017-2018 while it had showed a collection of Rs524.1365million as CD on items during the same period of previous FY2016-2017 from 20th of July till 20th of August while it had received Rs305.0234million during the time period.

The sources said the Collector Customs at MCC Peshawar Gul Rehman termed the improvement in the performance of the MCC Peshawar a result of effective tools applied to expand the tax net which has brought an increase in the revenue collection of the MCC Peshawar.

The sources at the Customs House Peshawar on Monday shared details of the collections made by different Customs Stations under the MCC Peshawar in counting of the CD and ST during said period of time which has showed a certain increase in the collection of revenue.

The Dry Port Peshawar got Rs247.6916million of CD whereas it has done Rs237.75million as ST from June 20, 2017-2018 till August 20, 2017-2018 whereas it received Rs201.6916million of CD from July 20th till August 20 during previous FY2016-2017.

In the same manner, the Bacha Khan International Airport generated Rs5.65million as CD whereas it got an amount of Rs4.95million of ST applied on items during the same period of time. During the previous FY2016-2017, the BBIAP collected Rs4.06million as CD from 20th of July till 20th of August.

The Bond Ware House Peshawar received Rs93.65million as CD while it did Rs3.835million of ST applied on items during the time period from 20th of July 2017-18 till 20th of August 2017-18.

In the same way, Torkham Customs Station collected Rs161.74million as CD while it has done an amount of Rs120.3858 million by collecting ST from 20th of July till 20th of August of the same Financial Year.

The Hazara Customs Station received an amount of Rs23.59million of CD whereas it has done an amount of Rs0.0975million as ST from July 20th till August 20th of FY 2017-2018.

The MCC Peshawar was constituted to collect tax from 17 other Customs centers which include 1 & I Auction, Kohat Auction, SWH Peshawar, Auction Cell, Recovery Cell, C.H KHAPAKH and B.G along others.

The detail shows certain increase in the collection of revenue of CD and ST during the ongoing FY2017-2018 which will lead the collection of more revenue during the current Financial Year provided proper steps were taken to upgrade the performance of Customs officials in order to eliminate the threat of corruption which brings a loss to the national exchequer.
