MCCI president calls for keeping environment clean

MULTAN: President Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) Malik Israr Ahmad Awan Monday urged people particularly tourists to try to keep the environment clean during visits to hilly areas to protect mountains.

Speaking at a function held in line with observance of International Mountain Day at MCCI, he said that almost half of the world population depend on mountains for meeting their needs including water, food.

The ceremony was organised in the honour of the bike-riders including two women, who had reached Multan as part of their Lahore-Fort Munro trip in connection with the International Mountain Day.

Regional Manager TDCP Multan Asher Iqbal Malik stressed the need for keeping mountains clean and adopting environment-friendly life style there.

Cross-Route Club Lahore motorcyclists Mukarram Khan Tareen said that K-2, Rakaposhi and Nanga Parbat mountains were beautiful mountains. He urged mountain area people and the tourists not to cut trees from mountains and instead work to beautify them further.

Dr Muhammad Aslam said that glaciers in mountains were a potent source of clean water and help people lead life.
