LONDON: McLaren has disclosed the details of its new limited edition McLaren F1 car, the McLaren 650S Le Mans.

The race car was designed to celebrate McLaren’s win in the 24 Hours Le Mans race in 1995, when five McLaren F1 GTR models finished the race in 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 13th place.

Created by McLaren’s Special Operations (MSO) division in collaboration with the designer of the original 1995 McLaren F1, Peter Stevens, the McLaren 650S Le Mans will be created as a coupé and only 50 units will be offered globally.

“With a mix of subtle design traits, the 650S Le Mans adds a modern twist by blending the iconic lines of the McLaren F1, and heritage features such as the wing louvers and the roof-mounted air intake, with groundbreaking technologies. It is a fantastic homage to that original design, and to the incredible race result achieved by the team in 1995 at one of the most difficult, and most challenging races in the world,” designer Peter Stevens said.

Like its ‘95 edition, the 650S will have the roof-mounted snorkel air intake which channels air into the 3.8 litre twin turbo V8 engine. It will also have a set of lightweight 650S alloy wheels, 19 inch in the front and 20 inch in the back, designed according to the ’95 version, with Pirelli P-Zero rims and ceramic brakes with orange callipers.

As for the upgrades, it will have a carbon fibre rear diffuser, side blades, and airbrake, as well as an FT3-inspired rear bumper, and satin back-engine covers.

Each McLaren will be painted with a special “Sarthe Grey” paint, inspired by the ’95 version.

For the interior, carbon fibre racing seats based on the ’95 version with contrasting orange McLaren Le Mans logos in the centre.

The 641bhp engine car is priced at £244,500 ($367,582), and will come with an invitation for two to the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans race, on June 13th and 14th.
