GENEVA: McLaren has teased its new model of Sports Series at Geneva Motor Show, which is expected to see at next month’s New York Auto Show.
The covers will come off the new McLaren Sports Series in New York, as the performance carmaker unveils its new entry-level ‘sports car’ (as opposed to supercar).
In anticipation, McLaren has released a short teaser video which shows glimpses of the car tearing up the snow during extreme cold weather testing.
Both front and rear of the Sports Series can be seen during the clip, but the car is still wearing heavy camouflage.
The video does put a few more pieces in the Sports Series’ jigsaw puzzle, adding to clues obtained when the new model was spied testing last year and from a previous teaser image released in December.
The Sports Series will be available in coupe, convertible and fast-back body-styles.
A carbon-fibre chassis sits beneath the new model, while power comes from a mid-mounted V8; expected to be a detuned version of the 3.8 litre 650S powerplant.
McLaren hopes its new model will double annual sales for the brand, and lure customers considering the likes of an Audi R8, Mercedes-AMG GT, Aston Martin V12 Vantage or Porsche 911 Turbo.
The Geneva show wasn’t simply a preview to future motor shows for McLaren however, with the carmaker showcasing its new P1 GTR and 675LT models.
